The UEA CRU hack - and Watergate

The key thing to remember is that Watergate involved illegal break-in and theft to undermine the good guys, and that what the climate-deniers are calling 'Climategate' involves illegal hacking and theft to undermine the good guys...

Hi Rupert

I just wondered who are the "good guys" you are referring to in this sentence "The key thing to remember is that Watergate involved illegal break-in and theft to undermine the good guys"?

Also, why oh why do you continue to twitter about the X Factor? As something that makes millions of pounds of profit for Simon Cowell, ITV and its advertisers, I'm surprised to find a Green progressive like yourself giving the Programme free advertising. Has anybody else questioned your focus on X Factor?

Yes Rupert, why do you tweet about the X Factor :0

Not sure what relevance my watching the X-Factor has to this post, but will indulge you, as there are two of you asking...
do some amateur singing, and I think it is an impressive singing contest. Joe and Danyl especially have remarkable voices.
Also, it is obviously an interesting crucible of our contemporary culture. I find the moments where it fails quite telling. It has failed in relation to Danyl - he has been persecuted for being bi, probably also for being black, and for not playing the game of being humble.
Therefore, I don't think I will bother watching the finals. I have tweeted on this, and have also promoted the attack on the XFactor by 'Rage against the machine', with which I am in strong sympathy.

On the 'good guys'; The Democrats in 1972 were one of the most radical tickets in mainstream US politics ever. I have met McGovern - he was a deeply impressive politician. The Watergate crime wasn't just directed against any Dems - it was directed against Dems who were better than Obama, better than Dean, better than Brown, better than Carter.
[Of course, Cointelpro etc. was even worse than Watergate; but that is irrelevant to the point I was making.]

my apologies Rupert :)

I was sort of being tounge-in-cheek.

I am guilty myself of watching 'rubbish' but that is all behind me now that we have got rid of the TV
