Leader = new members

An important quote from one of today's fairly big news stories:
"As leadership nominations closed yesterday evening with just two hats in the ring, it emerged the party had signed up around 2000 new members since Sir Menzies Campbell quit just more than a fortnight ago. At least 64,000 members will receive ballot papers when they are sent out on November 21, although the party is expecting numbers to swell further as the leadership contest gathers pace. The new leader will be announced the week before Christmas."

Please, Green Party people: do reflect on this. What wouldn't we give, for 2000+ new members!!

Don't forget Rupert that a lot of those will be people who quit under Campbell or Kennedy just returning to the fold. I doubt if they are genuinely all "new". And also 2000 new members only means 3 or so per constituency. Hardly great when the Tory membership in Norwich South grew by 150 alone after Cameron was elected, of which over 100 were real new people and a few dozen more lost sheep.

But on the general point I do think your party needs Leaders rather than Speakers or Co-Ordinators.

Erm I hate to point this out but the LibDems do not actually have a Leader at the moment, so maybe your post heading should be "No Leader = New members"?

Also I am puzzled by your equation that since Mr Campbell resigned and membership shot up the Greens should do the same. Just who, in the Green Party are you suggesting should resign?
